The Rail Mall

Since I don’t have much else to do today, you’re all going to get a spattering of last minute random blog posts about absolutely nothing in particular. For the past two years we’ve been living within a few blocks of The Rail Mall on Upper Bukit Timah road. If there is one thing we’ve learned about Singapore in the past two years, it’s that absolutely ZERO taxi drivers have any clue where The Rail Mall is.

Well, we might have learned a lot more than that. For example, Carly learned that she loved full body massages and pedicures from Body Talk.

We learned that you need to have a passport to sign up for a movie rental account at Video Ezy, and I learned to loathe region encoded DVD’s even more than when we lived in North America and I never had to worry about it.

I also learned that Ah Mei Kaya Toast serves up the best Chicken Murtabak that I’ve had anywhere in Singapore. The very thought of it has me drooling.

I’m going back to Singapore one of these days to eat. I don’t care if I do anything else while I’m there – I just want more murtabak from Ah Mei Kaya!

Singaporeans really do not worry about region coding for DVDs as most of the DVD players sold in Singapore are region free. As such, the Video Ezy store will have Code 1 and Code 3 DVDs.

Region coding will be a problem with BR disc though but thankfully Singapore is part of Region A, which is the same region coding as the U.S.
