What the…? Oh. Fewf.

Carly and I have booked our flight out of Singapore, heading to Amman, Jordan on the 12-June. I booked our tickets through Zuji, which is the Travelocity equivalent in Singapore, a few weeks ago.

Last Friday I got a phone call from Zuji saying that Gulf Air was no longer flying to Amman on that day, and wanted to know if she could move me to a flight on another day. Given that the 12th is a Tuesday, and on Monday we needed to close our bank accounts, collect refunds from electrical and cable companies, have our apartment inspected and handed back to the landlord, among 79 million other things, I was like... "Um. I don't think that's gonna work.".

After about 6 days of wondering how it would all turn out, Gulf Air transferred us onto a Qatar Airways flight and paid the difference for the more expensive tickets. We now leave Singapore about 2.5 hours earlier, and arrive in Jordan about one hour later than the original flights. I can deal with that.

I'm stoked to fly with Qatar Air, as they are a 5-star airline according to Skytrax rankings (same as Singapore Air). It's with great regret that we'll leave Singapore after being here for 2 years and never actually have flown on Singapore Airlines. Although, I suppose it was enough of a privilege to have spent so much time in Changi Airport (the airport in Singapore is ranked as the best airport in the world).

The nice thing about coming 'home' to Singapore is that you're not treated like a criminal. When I arrive 'home' to Canada, I feel like I'm interrogated by customs officers in about the manner one would expect to be if they had a rocket launcher on their shoulder and were dressed as Osama bin Laden. Nothing like a warm welcome home. At least I know there will be family and friends waiting, once the customs officer is finished with his rubber gloves.
